SHE RECOVERS® Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and global grassroots movement that supports more than 325,000 women and non-binary individuals who identify with women’s communities. Grounded in the belief that everyone is recovering from something—and no one should have to do it alone—the foundation offers resources for those healing from mental health issues, trauma, substance use, and other life challenges. By building both virtual and in-person community networks, SHE RECOVERS® helps individuals create personalized, holistic recovery paths that emphasize connection, support, and empowerment.
Founded in 2011 by Dawn Nickel, PhD, and her daughter Taryn Strong, the initiative began as a personal passion project and became an official nonprofit in 2020. Over the years, it has grown into a vibrant and inclusive recovery community. Key initiatives include more than 40 sold-out yoga and recovery retreats held in Mexico, California, British Columbia, and Bali; the SHE RECOVERS® Coach Designation Program with graduates in over 15 countries; a private Facebook support group with more than 7,500 members; and major conferences in NYC and LA featuring speakers such as Marianne Williamson, Glennon Doyle, Gabrielle Bernstein, and Tarana Burke. Today, SHE RECOVERS® continues to serve as a dynamic hub for healing, identity, and community support on an international scale.
