A Message from Deran Young

This tour with GXC and my own pursuit to bridge the gap between the clinical mental health world and the recovery community comes from my own lived experience as both a professional and a person.

I’ve lived on both sides, and I know the pain that comes when these two worlds don’t talk to each other. Gathering communities to create supportive infrastructure resonates deeply with my story. It’s in my DNA-the village. The village we create can hold us. Heal us.

We’re all working toward the same goal: to help people heal. But we tend to do it in silos. As a therapist in recovery, I’ve always asked myself:

  • Why don’t more clinicians talk about recovery spaces?
  • Why aren’t we talking about our own mental health needs?
  • Why, as professionals, do we surrender to the shame cycle?

These one-day experiences are for those who are feeling quietly alone. For the professionals and those they care for, who haven’t experienced the benefits of support networks. We’re not just here to talk about substances, we’re here to talk about:

  • Behavioral patterns
  • Learned survival strategies
  • Self-medicating defaults that live in our nervous systems

We’re uniting a network of change-makers too:

  • FLIP the narrative
  • HEAL the shame wounds
  • WORK the solution

I’ll be guiding this experience city by city. in courageous conversations and powerful potential across disciplines, cultures, and healing traditions, we’ll talk—and tell the real stories that don’t get told in our professional spaces. And we’ll do it in a way that honors both the science and the soul.

Because when we work together, learn together, and show up fully – We become the movement. And that movement starts here.
